Piemonte’s finest food, wine and boutique accommodation
A recovered 16th-17th-century barn with the soul of an elegant palazzo, Relais Le Due Matote has been at the heart of the rural Piemonte community of Bossolasco for centuries.
Today’s adults-only boutique retreat is a lesson in Italian design featuring vintage tiles, parquet flooring and chic, handcrafted furnishings placed in the spotlight beside bare walls lit by natural light through large windows and patio doors. The result is relaxed refinement, which is all-at-once sophisticated and calming. In fact, troubles effortlessly fade away at Relais Le Due Matote, whether you’re relaxing by the outdoor infinity pool or in the therapeutic indoor pool, enjoying an Ayurvedic massage, taking part in a wine-tasting session or truffle hunting trip, or simply resting in one of the six suites.
Each suite has an individual character with unique elements such as a four-poster bed once slept in by Napoleon III, a 19th-century English four-poster bed, Aubusson carpet, hand-carved fireplace and silk upholstered chairs and sofas. The artistry of which is only matched by the surrounding natural beauty and riches best explored with a tour – picnic included – in a 1970s Fiat Spaiggina driven by the Relais’ Chef Luca La Peccerella. Luca executes Chef Roberto Di Pinto’s (owner of Milan’s Sine by Di Pinto) vision of Italian/international cuisine with a Neapolitan twist in the fine-dining L’Orangerie by Di Pinto, the tapas dishes for Crystal Bar & Lounge and Neapolitan pizza at The Pizzeria known for its light and digestible dough achieved after a 48-hour levitation process.
